This place is really cool. I visited outside of visitor center hours, but was still able to see the petroglyphs. It was well worth stopping to check it out.

The petroglyphs are actually visible here. They provide visitors with guides for finding the petroglyphs on your own if you opt out of the guided tour. Beautiful examples of natural prairies, great for a beautiful walk. Very low key place, not too touristy and packed to enjoy!

Wonderful prairie and petroglyph site. However do note that the center itself only provides services and tours on Saturdays after Labor Day until October 1st. This information is not at all clear.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Jeffers Petroglyphs. The guided tour is 45 minutes long and very interesting and informative. Many of the glyphs are difficult to see, but the tour with the park guide helps a great deal in spotting them. I'd also recommend taking the long trail back after the tour to see the tracks from the old stage coach line and the rock that has been worn smooth by bison using it to scratch their coats.

This was a very cool place to visit. Out on a rainy weekday touring State Parks. As I pulled in, it was threatening rain and I could see a few streaks of lightning. Despite the warnings of conductivity and that fact that no one else was around, I ventured forth. Several of the petroglyphs are so worn they are hard to see, even through they are marked. Regardless, I enjoyed the self-guided tour and would encourage others to see this before it is gone. Too bad parks like this don't receive more funding. It might be prudent and necessary to preserve this history by extracting and displaying what remains under glass in buildings, much like what has been done at Pipestone Natl. Monument.
